Christ is shown in the centre on a tall cross, surmounted by a pelican, between the two crosses with the thieves, receding diagonally into the relief field. A soldier is shown breaking the legs of the thief on the right. In the left centre foreground is the Virgin with bowed head supported by the holy women and St. John. The right foreground is filled with spectators, and in the background are four mounted figures.
