This is a silvered electrotype medal made in the 19th century, in England. The obverse of this medal represents the bust of Major General Richard Browne, and motto "Non vir sed virtus." The reverse shows his armorial shield and the legend "For King and Parliament, 1644." This medal was copied from the original given by the General to his troops.

Historical context | On 21 June, the King marched on Buckingham with the Oxford army. The Parliamentarian Committee for Both Kingdoms feared that he intended to strike at East Anglia, undefended while the Eastern Association army was at the siege of York. The Earl of Essex was beyond the Committee's control, so frantic orders were sent to Sir William Waller to intercept the King's army. Major-General Richard Browne, Governor of Abingdon, was sent with a brigade of 4,500 from London to support Waller. |
