Historical context | Simpson revisited the Crimea in April 1869, with the Prince and Princess of Wales: see Autobiography, 1903, pp.216-23. His account describes many of the subjects of these sketches. The Illustrated London News, from 22 May - 24 July 1869, reproduced illustrations derived from these sketches, with commentary by Simpson. |
