The Broadway musical Moulin Rouge! The Musical is based on the film musical of the same name directed by Baz Luhrmann. It recreates the opulent, sensory and melodramatic atmosphere of the film, adding additional contemporary songs to bring the musical up to date. This costume is worn by Satine, who descends into the theatre on a trapeze to sing the medley ‘Sparkling Diamond’, which includes the songs ‘Diamonds are Forever’ by Shirley Bassey, ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’ by Marilyn Monroe and ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna.
