Historical context | Gleichen purchased photographs in Cairo to supplement his drawings in this album. The Nile Campaign included members of the Camel Corps and fellow officers of the Guards Camel Regiment in that corps. See Searight Archive for details of military action and correlation between sketches and Gleichen's publication. Cf. W. S. Perry (SD.772-SD.798), O. Norie (SD.701-SD.702), and contemporary volumes of the Illustrated London News and The Graphic. |
