Marks and inscriptions | On recto: 'April eleventh. Pope Doctor. St. Leo the great.'
On verso: 'St. Leo the great. Pope Doctor. Feast: April 11. He shares the title of "Great" with two other popes: Gregory I and Nicholas I. Conscious of his supreme responsibility, he spent most of his pontificate combating Pelagians, Nestorians, and other heretics. To him we owe the defined doctrine of the two-fold nature one-person in Christ. Prayer. Lord, eternal Shepherd, watch over Your flock and guard it under the patronage of Your Pontiff St. Leo, whom You made shepherd of Your whole Church. Heavenly 84. Printed in Italy.' |
