Marks and inscriptions
On recto: 'September thirteenth. Confessor doctor. St. Jerome.' On verso: 'St. Jerome. Confessor doctor. Feast: September 30. An ardent student of the classics, an extensive traveler, St. Jerome was secretary of the Pope; but finding himself the centre of controversy, he withdrew to a cave near Bethlehem. Here he spent the rest of his life translating the Bible and commenting on various passages. Prayer. Lord, You have given Your Church the most renowned among her teachers, in the explanation of Holy Scriptures. By his merits grant that we may put into practice what he taught by word and deed. Heavenly 82. Printed in Italy.'
