Marks and inscriptions | On recto: 'March twenty first. Abbot founder. St. Benedict'
On verso: 'St. Benedict. Abbot Founder. Feast: March 21. Born of a noble family, he fled from the moral dangers that beset him in the world, and retired to a cave near Subiaco to live as a hermit. But disciples flocked to him and he founded a community of monks afterward called the Order of St. Benedict. Their ideal is to labour and to pray. Prayer. St. Benedict, Patriarch of Labor, Father of Peace, teach us to labor and pray in the true spirit of Christian Charity. Heavenly 64. Printed in Italy.' |
