Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The ‘Tommy Adaptive’ range was first launched on their website in the autumn of 2017, and consists of clothes with innovative design twists to help people with disabilities change. The range is marketed as ‘classic American-cool style designed to make getting dressed easier’. The outfit includes a fleece which closes with a magnetic front closure, a top with velcro fastening at the shoulders for wide opening, and jeans with zip openings at the bottom of the legs for wide opening.

Other adaptations in the clothing range include back openings for those seated in wheelchairs. All of these designs are intended to empower young people with different needs in the daily task of getting dressed.

Hilfiger has said that his passion for designing adaptive clothing stemmed from the issues his autistic children have faced getting dressed. In designing the line, Hilfiger says his team drew upon their experience designing athletic wear, as it has a similar focus on movement, performance and functionality.
