Bowls that give pine an image makeover

Pine is a softwood that is often seen as inferior in quality and appearance to other wood species. The new Finnish company Vaarnii is changing this perception by foregrounding Finland’s most populous wood, Scots pine, in its first collection by several international designers. These sturdy bowls, by Mac Collins, make a virtue of pine’s colour and texture and celebrate the use of locally sourced wood.
