Physical description
A leaded bronze bell shaped mortar with two cast-in projecting handles in the form of horse heads terminating in foliage. Decorated around the rim with guilloche with, below acanthus overlapping water leaf on a cyma recta moulding. on the body, fleshy foliage scrolls springing from a single leaf, alternating with female masks with rosettes above. A gadrooned bowl and plain moulded foot.

Bought from Michelangelo Guggenheim, Venice, in 1880 (with 335 to 354- 1889) for £300.
