Place of origin

Description: Cover of woven silk and metal thread, pieced, backed with cotton twill and faced with woven wool.
Dark blue satin ground with a densely-packed pattern of stems, small leaves and flowers all woven with metal thread [silver strip open s-wound on a yellow silk core]; the centre of the larger flowers is red silk. The finer stems form undulating parallel lines across which scrolling leaves form a lozenge enclosing a section of the stem and four larger flower heads.
The difference in colouring is very noticeable where the silver metal thread has worn away to reveal its yellow silk core.
Backing: red cotton twill.
Facing: bias cut; striped woollen twill. Red, blue, yellow, white and dark blue stripes with either a small floral motif or a horizontal red blossom with a pair of long serrated leaves.
