The Rorstrand factory was founded in 1726 near Stockholm, Sweden. Carl-Harry Stalhane worked at the factory from 1939 until 1973 when he established his own workshop. Specialising in stoneware, Stalhane is known for the sculptural quality of his work.

This piece was included in the exhibition 'Three Centuries of Swedish Pottery' held at the V&A in 1959.
