Folding fan with paper leaf painted with a port view of Canton with buildings in the background and European and Chinese figures standing in front of them. Flag poles from left to right include a flag depicting a white cross on a red ground (Danish), a white flag, a blue flag with a yellow cross (Swedish), a Union Jack and a tricolour (France). Chinese junks in the foreground. All surrounded with a formal flower border. The reverse is painted with large sprays of flowers from left to right: chrysanthemums, roses, blue daisies and azaleas.
The sticks are of bone brisé with bands of geometric piercing, the guards carved in relief with a Chainese landscape.
