The Bing & Grøndahl factory was founded in 1853 and rose to be one of the two largest ceramic manufacturers in Denmark, alongside competitor Royal Copenhagen.
In addition to cultivating in-house artistic talent, Bing and Grøndahl also attracted visiting artists. One of Britain’s leading studio potters of the 1980s, Jacqui Poncelet, worked as an artist-in-residence at Bing & Grøndahl in 1985–6 where she created this elegant dish.
