Place of origin |
Based in Dakar, Senegal, Bull Doff was established by design duo Laura Tarot and Baay Sooley in 2010. The brand is known for its Afrofuturistic and punk-inspired collections, which are created as a celebration of the city of Dakar where the duo first met. Their collections reference the sounds, shapes and scents of the city, abstracted into clothing: ‘Dakar transports you like a never-ending trance… it was from this evanescent whirlwind, this producer of ideas and desires, this everyday street life that the natural source of our inspiration came.’
The brand predominantly creates everyday streetwear pieces available through their online shop, but also create one-off art pieces. The dress comes from the brand’s 2012 Tangana collection. The aesthetic was inspired by Mbithie Mbithe, strips of plastic commonly used to decorate buses and the front of traditional restaurants known as Tangana, from which the collection derives its name.
