Object history | The complete look was designed by Donatella Versace and presented on the runway for the Versace menswear Spring Summer 2020 collection, which referenced both street-styles, through the use of leather, denim and prints, and more traditional tailoring. The collection was dedicated to the memory of Keith Flint, English singer and member of the electronic dance act The Prodigy, of whom Donatella Versace wrote: ‘I dedicate this collection to my old friend. He was disruption….’ The collection was inspired by Versace’s personal memories of Flint, related to the often disruptive rites of passage from boyhood to adulthood and symbolised by objects and materials such as cars and leather. For Versace, these design choices are also a commentary on the role played by clothing in stepping out of one world and into another. On the catwalk, the sleek coat was styled with shorts, mixing different proportions to represent the ‘passage’ from boyhood to adulthood that inspired the whole collection. |
