In 1969, Salvador Dalí was commissioned by Random House to illustrate an edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This edition epitomises the fascination Surrealist artists had with Lewis Carroll’s work. Dalí utilises several of his familiar motifs, including the melting clock and the femme-enfant with the skipping rope, to redefine Carroll’s story as a journey through the subconscious.
