Place of origin |
Linen-press of oak. The stand is shaped like a small low table without a top plate. There is heavy gadrooned moulding around the edge of the top. Four bulbous legs with gadrooned knops. Wainscoted base plate. The base of the top section has a drawer. From the base rise two fluted columns of square section, decorated on the outside with flat carved strapwork and an applied half round spindle ornament. Across the top a transverse beam with scrolled brackets and cresting (including a mark). Through this works the large wooden screw of the press. The lower end of the screw rotates in the press-plate which is recessed at the sides, so as to slide up and down. Two boards of deal, of no great age, accompany the press. These fit between the top and bottom plates of this press.
