Place of origin |
Selly Raby Kane is a Senegalese artist and fashion designer. She is the founder of the brand SRK and a member of the Muus du Tux and Les Petits Pierres collectives in Dakar. The former is a group of artists that use different media to explore the connections between Dakar’s urban life and mysticism; the latter is a multidisciplinary organization that promotes social innovation across the city’s neighbourhoods.
Her designs are inspired by the city of Dakar, its physical urban landscape and its vibrant essence, but translated into bold, futuristic pieces. This piece comes from Kane’s 17 Rue Jules Ferry collection, designed for Autumn/Winter 2017 as a celebration of the best of Dakar, its ‘transgressive creative processes and cross-disciplinary vision’, manifested in an imaginary location: 17 Rue Jules Ferry.
