Porcelain with a

crystalline glaze

While Arnold Krog was art director from 1891 until 1916 Royal Copenhagen became one of the most influential of porcelain factories. He is best known for his underglaze decoration but the factory was also among the pioneers, with Sevres, in the development for multiple, industrial production of special glazes with flambe and craquele effects in emulation of oriental originals and, in particular, the newly discovered crystalline glazes. While Krog designed forms inspired by oriental examples Valdemar Englehardt (1869-1915), the company's chemist and technical advisor, created the glazes.
