This ivory tankard is carved with putti in a bacchic procession. The style is reminiscent of François Duquesnoy, but, like 206-1874, the carving is clumsy in places, and the ivory may have been carved in the nineteenth century in Germany, perhaps Erbach im Odenwald, where the ivory industry thrived at that date. The mounts would have been added in Britain.

Tankard, ivory with silver-gilt mounts, with putti in a bacchic procession, probably German (Erbach im Odenwald), ca. 1855, mounts added in Britain
Physical description
This tankard shows putti in a bacchic procession. A dog is shown carved in ivory around the metal knop of the lid. The mounts have an English hallmark of 1856.

Summary
