LIP is a French watch and clock company, based in Besançon in eastern France. In the mid 1970s they were at the centre of a high profile strike around worker's rights in which the factory was occupied by protesting workers who eventually took over the management of the business. It was described as 'the social conflict of the 1970s' by the French newspaper Libération.
