Bowl

Artist/Maker

This bowl was made at the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen in southern China during the Yongzheng reign (1723-35). Official wares or guan yao were produced in workshops supervised by imperial officers and were destined to the court in Beijing.

The design and technique of this green and yellow bowl are inspired by similar Ming examples of the 16th century. A taste for archaic shapes and designs developed at the imperial court during the Yongzheng and Qianlong reign (1736-95), leading to the emulation of several Ming types.
