The Slinky was originally designed by U.S. Naval engineer Richard James from a metal coil. His wife Betty came up with the name 'Slinky' and they began selling them in 1945 with massive success. In 1948 the company moved its base to Pennsylvania and in 2001 the Slinky was named Official State Toy of Pennsylvania. This example is a 1995 replica of the original, made for the 50th anniversary of the company's founding.
