Although originally designed in 1850, Levi 501 button jeans have enjoyed a revival in the 1980s due to consumer demand and the marketing efforts of the manufacturer. The quintessentially American garment, blue jeans, have since the early 1950s become alternatively and sometimes simultaneously a symbol of youthful rebellion, political protest and above all, a fashion statement.
