Historical context | This jacket forms part of Dave Forrest's first Teddy Boy suit, which he had made-to measure from Alexandre, a tailor working in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. He specified the particular detailing he wanted, such as the velvet trim on the cuffs and the half belt, also in black velvet, on the back. When he purchased this suit, Dave Forrest was aged 17 years and was working as an apprentice. The suit cost £16, which represented four weeks wages. The trousers were subsequently worn out. |
