Object history
This sari was bought for the Museum in India in 1882 by Caspar Purdon Clarke for £ 0.29 (5s 9d), as a complete sari.

1883 South Kensington Museum Register entry: 'DRESS PIECE (Sari)). Blue cotton net with narrow side borders in white and yellow. The principal end border has transverse bands and stripes in red and yellow silk and white cotton. Madura. 19th cent. L.24 ft 1 in. W.3 ft 6 in. Bought 5s 9d.'
