Man's wide-brimmed hat of deep red silk plush, with a broad brim (3.5 inches) and a high crown with a central crease. The hat band is of red corded silk satin with a flat bow on the left hand side. The lining, possibly of white polyester, is gathered at the crown. The crown itself has a protective clear plastic cover.
The maker's name is printed in gold and black, and there is also the royal coat of arms, by Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, Hatters. The inner hat band is of brown leather with the makers name stamped in gold on the right side. Inside the back of this hat band is a printed paper label bearing the cipher of Herbert Johnson and details concerning the style of the hat.
The size is repeated on a white paper tag attached near the C/B next to a decorative white cord.
