Woven curtain of silk, wool and cotton with a pattern of acanthus in pink and green. Full woven widthway and lengthwise sample of fabric with selvedges top and bottom and along each edge of the fabric. The repeating design shows diagonally trailing acanthus leaves in salmon pink through which meander tulip heads and seed heads in cream and salmon pink on a green ground. All but the top edge of the hanging is trimmed at 1.5 inch (4 cms) intervals with bobbles of the same green, pink and cream yarns as used in the woven fabric.

Object history | Purchased. Registered File number 1988/106. This is a contemporary trimming and the curtain was probably sold in this state. The designer is unknown and, although attributed to C.F.A. Voysey, could possibly have been drawn by Gavin Morton (1867-1954), Alexander Morton's nephew who ran the firm's design studio from 1895-1908. |
Historical context | A sample of this fabric is in the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (WAG 11834). This was exhibited in British Sources of Art Nouveau, Whitworth Art Gallery, March 1969-May 1969 (No. 107, illus. p. 33). |
Production | The designer is unknown and, although possibly attributed to C.F.A. Voysey, could possibly have been drawn by Gavin Morton. |
