'Berhampore silk', whether raw or manufactured, referred to products from four different local centres which were marketed at Berhampore (modern Baharampur); it was then a substantial industry. Tie-dyeing and its printed imitations are no longer produced in West Bengal. In 1882, this sari was probably resist-dyed.
