Cascade drop earrings worn by an Ugly Sister in Cinderella
Earring
This pair of earrings is one of several items of jewellery worn by Nigel Ellacott and Peter Robbins (1953- 2009) in the ballroom scene of Cinderella. They worked together as specialist Ugly Sisters for over twenty-five years, providing their own wonderfully exuberant costumes and wigs designed by Nigel, worn with accessories bought by or made for them. Theirs may be the longest-running Ugly Sister partnership in the history of pantomime.
The grand entrance of the Ugly Sisters at the Royal Ball in their utterly tasteless frocks and wigs is a show-stopping moment in the Act I finale of Cinderella. To ensure maximum impact and 'diamond' dazzle under the lights, both Dames wore a lavish amount of jewellery, with dangly earrings, glittering choker necklaces and several bracelets and rings worn over their long black gloves.
