This white marble statuette depicts Cupid blindfolded and carrying a torch. He is trying to catch a small girl, who kneels beneath his outstretched arms and mocks him as he passes.
The statue is in the style of the French sculptor Edme Bouchardon (1698-1762). Bouchardon was Court sculptor to Louis XV from 1736 and executed a number of portrait busts, as well as many groups and statuettes of classical subjects.
