Historical context
(1976) Note in Register: The painter's monogram is not recorded; however the same artist executed a tile with a similar subject for the decorating firm of T.A. Simpson, Hanley (ca.1890-1969) which is illustrated in Barnard (see Refs.). A design for a tiled fireplace surround decorated in maroon and grey with squirrels and leafy branches was exhibited at Wolverhampton Art Gallery (Victorian Tiles, 1978, cat.288). The design was not attributed but the styles suggests C. Haité.
