Object history | Part of a large group of objects given by Herman Hart and described by him as Hungarian. When acquired, it was described by the museum curator as Hungarian (Transylvania), late 19th or early 20th century. |
Historical context | Same shaped jugs are illustrated in Folk Art (see Refs) where they are described as pitchers from the Magyar Autonomous Region. One of them is dated 1871. This region is Transylvania in Romania. In Domanovszky (see Refs.) there is a jug (fig.31) of the same shape. It is attributed to Odorhei (Transylvania) and is dated 1852. |
