Object history | Extract from report by Mr. A Vande Put dated 18.7.12: 'On the 16 inst. Señor de Osma left with me, to hand to the Ceramic Depart. a parcel of eleven fragments of enamelled pottery and tiles discovered recently at Manises. Pottery = 8. 4 Lustred fragments, 3 ornamented in blue only, 1 ornamented in manganese only. Tiles = 3. Blue and white. They are, he stated, fairly representative of the finds now being made at that locality, and have been chosen as all coming from the same terrain, and of , probably, the same date. The shard ornamented in manganese is somewhat of a rarity; of this style no perfect specimen is known. The large fragment of the alafia and 'agiafe' variety has - like the rest of its ornamentation (in blue) - a bank shield in the centre. It is most interesting because it was evidently rejected before the lustre pigment was applied'. |
