Two-part costume designed by Fotini Dimou, made by Angelina Perrioni and worn by Isabel Tamin as Euridice for Orpheus Singing and Dreaming, 1996.
Orpheus Singing and Dreaming was choreographed by Richard Alston to Harrison Birtwistle’s 'Nema: The Death of Orpheus' (1970) and first performed by Richard Alston Dance Company (RADC) with the London Sinfonietta as part of Secret Theatres: The Harrison Birtwistle Retrospective at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, on Saturday 4 May 1996 The role of Euridice was created by Samantha Smith. Isabel Tamin played the role in the alternate cast. She performed with essentially white face make-up.
The V&A's Richard Alston Dance Company archive (THM/627) contains further information on the costumes for Orpheus Singing and Dreaming and the wardrobe care.

Physical description | Sculpted charcoal-grey rubber bodice and short layered skirt. S.221:1-2021 Rubberised leotard, the fitted bodice lined for comfort. Incorporated blue-grey pants. Fastens with hooks and press-studs on one shoulder. S.221:2-2021 Short circular skirt consisting of two layers of silk chiffon secured on a band of petersham. The slightly shorter top layer is black and the under-skirt is white. |
