Artist/Maker
Place of origin

John Donald was a key exponent of the distinctive style of gold jewellery, influenced by abstract expressionism, that flourished in London in the 1960s. In this brooch, a strong and early example of the style, Donald makes a feature of the hollow tubes in which gold was supplied by bullion dealers at the time. In 1967, four years after this brooch, he made a comparable brooch set with a central aquamarine for HRH Princess Margaret.
