Inkstand of oblong quaterfoil form, on feet, with well for ink and pouncepot (now missing) on either sides of a figure of St. Gregory the Great. In the front is a rectangular drawer depicting a half-length figure of a lady wearing a fontange, with a small dog on her lap.

Inkstand of oblong quaterfoil form, on feet, with well for ink and pouncepot (now missing) on either sides of a figure of St. Gregory the Great. In the front is a rectangular drawer depicting a half-length figure of a lady wearing a fontange, with a small dog on her lap.

Production
Baroni and Barioli ( see Bibl. refs) attribute it to the Argano Factory, outside Bassano. Drake (see Bibl. ref.) concludes that a workshop in Venice or somewhere in the Venetian territory remains the probable source.
