In the 14th century lustred pottery of great quality was produced in Malaga by Islamic potters; by 1400 the centre of production had moved to the Valencian region. The potters of Valencia and Manises produced ambitious lustreware ceramics that were admired in the all of Europe and became the most widely diffused luxury pottery.
The arms are those of Aragon-Sicily.

Object history | The arms are those of Aragon-Sicily . A dish with the same arms was sold at Sotheby's in 1959 (20 March, Lot 14). Purchase price note: Bought for £20 9s 6d. |
Production | The arms are those of Aragon-Sicily. Although Ray dates this dish to c.1500, he dates the Aragon-Sicily arms to 1468-79, the dates of the reign of Ferdinand as King of Sicily, for the dish cat.no.183. |
