Object history | One of two very similar large jars (the other is Mus.no.1820-1888). The shape is similar to that of the Alhambra Vases but this probably had a shorter neck. The quality of the cut motifs and glazing indicates that it had a decorative as well as a practical function. A very similar 'tinaja' in the Algiers Museum is illustrated by Migeon (1927, Vol. II fig.392) and comparison can be made with a jar in the Museo Arqueologico in Granada. |
Production | There is no provenance for these vessels, but they are typical of pottery of the Nasrid kingdom from the late 14th/early 15th century. |
