Place of origin |
Dress fabric, silk twill with metal thread.
Displayed behind glass.
1\3 twill.
Warp: pink silk
Weft: silk: pink, mauve, green, white, black; metal thread: silver-gilt strip S-wound on yellow silk core. Pieced with a seam across the middle.
The ground is 'gold' metal thread with two layers of pattern which do not sit comfortably together.
[1] A fine white stem forms a series of slightly concave lozenges. Along the stems are mauve flowers, large and small, a mauve and pink daisy and pairs of green leaves.
[2] Pairs of white scrolls edged in black overlay this. These works in bands: a narrow band of a feathery form of them create horizontal figures of 8, each half containing one of the purple flowers and each half having a red trefoil attached to it. A wider band has pairs of 'brackets', one pair above the other, the 4 meeting in the centre line of the band. Each pair half enclosed a bouquet of pink flowers.
