Brief description
Ink stand, silver, Paul de Lamerie, 1744.
Physical description
Shaped, rectangular, silver tray standing on four paw feet. It has a molded border and two oblong pen troughs surrounded by applied beaded moldings and three deep circular depressions into which fit an inkwell, a pounce pot and a taperstick. The inkwell and pounce pot are both of inverted baluster shape, embossed with scrolls and stylised shells, both have detachable pierced covers. The taperstick is on a rim foot with a gadrooned rim foot and has a partly fluted socket and a leaf-capped scroll handle.The tray is engraved with the coat of arms of Admiral George Anson and the pots and inkstand are engraved with his crest.
