Object history
Inscribed on p. 126: 'Read aloud to dear Tat [i.e. Catharine Owen] & [?] / February 28 1903 / And how in the world such a dull book / got itself through so many editions I was / [dulled?] at every page'. Later inscription in pencil: 'Yet now it looks to me a very pretty book / March 1 1916. My dear Tat & [?] both gone / & the old Cuckoo Clock (which [?] so loved) lives on / in this big house [Belmount Hall] which is very like the one on the title page'.
Library's copy inscribed on upper cover: 'Betty [i.e. Rebekah] Owen / Belmount Hall / 17 February. 1903.'
Library's copy previously owned by Beatrix Potter and donated to the Library by Joan Duke in October 2006.
