Place of origin |
Part of a border, silk satin embroidered with silk in satin stitch with couched metal thread.
Displayed behind glass.
Cut along the upper edge. White ground with a border along the bottom edge and along the right hand side; it has coiling silver stem with 3-petalled carnations in silver, silver and pink or silver and blue. The left hand side seems to be folded under to fit in the frame. There is a line of 5 individual floral sprays in 2 designs:
[1] 3 small silver blossoms on stems, side-by-side. The central one grows upwards with 2 pink and blue leaves, another silver blossom, 2 pink leaves and 3 more silver blossoms complete the spray. [2] a root system with a pair of horizontal stems ending in a gold and pink carnation. Above this are 3 pairs of fine leaves and then a gold vase with 2 curving stems and 3 upright ones bearing pink, blue and gold carnation and buds.
Metal Thread: silver strip wound around a white silk core and silver-gilt strip wound around a cream silk core.
Displayed behind glass.
