Plain weave cotton embroidered with metal thread in straight stitches backed and faced with block printed cotton.
A band of trellis lozenges surrounds the rectangle, edged with small reciprocal trefoils. In the centre panel is a pointed niche form delineated by diagonal stripes of straight stitched lozenges. Inside a smaller niche form outlined in lozenges containing two stylized candlesticks, a comb and a rosary. Below, a stylized flowering plant and either side a leaf stem. Worked in the manner of whitework which is usually embroidered with silk thread.
Cotton thread: Z-spun
Embroidery thread: silver strip close S-wound on a white silk core.
Backing: pieced; plain weave white cotton densely packed with a scrolling black stem bearing numerous small blossoms, leaves and buds predominantly in green, blue, red and purple with touches of yellow.
Facing: bias cut plain weave white cotton; pieced; printed with a pattern of a flowering plant or boteh in light blue and red.
