This bronze medal depicts a dove descending upon an altar flanked by symbols of peace and plenty in the exergue 'Peace, Commerce and Friendship with all nations.' On the reverse side upon a wreath, the shields of Britain, France, Turkey and Sardinia, and the legend 'Peace with Russia and the Allied Powers signed at Paris, March 30th 1856.'
The Treaty of Paris of 1856 settled the Crimean War between Russia and an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, the Kingdom of Sardinia, France, and the United Kingdom. The treaty made the Black Sea neutral territory, closing it to all warships, and prohibiting fortifications and the presence of armaments on its shores. The treaty marked a severe setback to Russian influence in the region.
