Historical context
Illustration for Revd E. Blomfield, A General View of The World, Geographical, Historical and Philosophical; on a plan entirely new, 2 vols, Bungay, 1807, Vol. II, Bk.VIII, facing page 489, engraved by T. Wallis. [Each engraving is lettered variously W.M. Craig delt./del/delin.]. The mamluk horseman and mosque are apparently based on part of an aquatint after L. Mayer, A Mamaluke Exercising, first published 1802, and, as a plate in Views in Egypt in 1804.
