Place of origin |
Like many artist jewellers, Silke Trekel chooses to work with materials of no intrinsic value rather than the traditional materials of the jeweller. Thus the value of the piece rests entirely in her creativity and skill. This brooch is made of balsa wood which she has laminated and shaped, and then painted. The geometric forms and the colouring of these balsa wood pieces make oblique reference to the arts and crafts of China.
