This round bronze medal depicts Florence Nightingale in half length reading. The image is bordered with the rose, shamrock and the thistle. On the reverse there is an oval shield charged with a crown and V.R on a rayed cross and around the shield is the inscription 'Blessed are the merciful.' Above there are three stars and below a label reads 'Crimea' with palm branches on either side. The legend reads 'As a mark of esteem and gratitude for her devotion to the Queen's brave soldiers.'
